             OUR BOATS

Email a picture of your boat
for our Pier 4 web show.

No invitation required: If you see a gathering along Pier 4 any given Friday or Saturday evening, it means Happy Hour is in full swing. Bring your drinks, bring your chairs, and, if you have something to share, bring an appetizer. Having a laugh and sharing good conversation is mandatory.

FAT DADDY'S OUTING

Check back for date (think June) and sign up for a PIER 4 Weekend at Fat Daddys. If your boat cannot clear the bridge at Paris Landing, you may be able to bunk with a pier mate or (sorry) drive down for the evening.

Moving On

We recently lost two of our pier familes. Dale and Marsha Grasher put Blown Away up for sale last fall. They decided to indulge in some traveling by land for the near future. In March, Mike and Janet Dorsey moved to North Carolina. They bought a house on a golf course where Mike can daily indulge his other love.

Pier 4 LOOKING GOOD on Memorial Day

Thanks to Mark and Susan Sunderman for decorating our pier with flags.

Not only did Mark and Susan deck out Varangian for the lighted boat parade on Memorial Weekend, they also took the time to place flags along the pier.

THANK YOU, MARK and SUSAN.

YOUR OPINION IS NEEDED

Pier 4 Sponsorship of CYC Event

From Mark Sunderman

It was Susan and my great pleasure to participate in several of the Pier Four activities last season. I thought the soup throw down and the seafood boil were just great. Perhaps I shouldn’t have bragged about our pier parties so much because we have been asked as a pier to consider sponsoring one of the Commonwealth Yacht Club’s cruising events this year. Some of you have attended several of the CYC cruising functions and know how much fun it can be to take our boats, meet our friends, eat some food and hope we are able to get back to our boats. As I look at the 2008 cruising schedule, I see three or four events that we could choose to head up. If you want to see the entire schedule go to www.cycgtb.com and look for the 2008 cruise schedule. The events would be the BBQ at Smith Bay on April 19, the rendezvous at Pisgah Bay on June 7, the seafood boil at Smith Bay on September 6 and maybe the raft up for fireworks on July 4 th. The BBQ on April 19 is also the date for the Kentucky Lake Sailing Clubs 100k race. The other dates are free. The BBQ and seafood boil are self-explanatory but the Rendezvous could be anything we want (wine and beer tasting, hot dog roast, etc.) The 4 th of July would be harder just because it is a raft up. The events should be self-funded so we would be in charge of organizing and executing. We would probably need to do the shopping. We probably need a consensus of at least four or five so the work seems like fun instead of work. The first event is only about 8 weeks away so if your interested let Vickie know ASAP so the planning can begin.

See You on the Pier.

Please email Mark or Vickie. Include in your email: 1) if you want Pier 4 to sponsor an event, 2) which event, and 3) how much time you will volunteer to organizing and working the event.

What's happening:

The fun begins at Happy Hour. Most Friday or Saturday nights you will find a gathering at the end of the pier near Queen Ann. Join in - bring an appetizer to share and your own drinks and chairs.

Get to know your dock mates - Write a small web article about your sailing interests, family, career, whatever, include pictures. We will post it on the Dock Mates page. Email your information and pictures to Vickie. For an example, click the Dock Mates button at left, then click on the Ellen Ann, Slip 36.

Latest Dock List - Download a pdf of the latest contact list for your dock mates by clicking the Dock List button. If you cannot view the file, go to Adobe.com to download the free viewer. To add your information or correct an error on the list, email Vickie.

Call for Pictures - Send me your sailing pictures for our library. Email pics of your boat at sail, in dock, at anchorage, racing, in foreign (not GTB) places, with happy people on board. In addition to building a library of boat pictures, I want to include a slide show of our boats on this page.
